DeWar's Instant Printing
Richard De War, president
Janesville, WI

Located one hundred and ten miles north of Chicago and 70 miles east of Milwaukee, Janesville, Wisconsin is home to the Parker Pen Co. and a large Chevrolet plant that produces the popular Tahoe sport utility vehicle. Janesville is also home to DeWar’s Instant Printing. DeWar’s, a five-employee, instant-print shop is typical of many small-town, print shops: It caters to local, small manufacturing companies and non-profit organizations, providing them with letterheads, business cards, posters and brochures.
While the small print shop may seem similar to its copy-shop and instant-print competitors, DeWar’s provides one particular service that is in high demand: high-quality, two-color offset printing.

Our customers are similar to everyone’s: They expect high-quality and quick turnaround. By using this new model, we are adding to our productivity and maintaining our high-quality."
All of the T-51’s plate adjustments — vertical, horizontal and twist (skew) — can be done while the press is running, saving printers 10 to 15 minutes per job. Once the image on the A.B. Dick press is positioned to the paper, the T-51 image is precisely registered to match.
"We can really see a big time savings with the On-the-Fly angular adjustments," says DeWar. "For example, we recently produced a job for one company that included a two-color, hairline-register letterhead and two different business cards that used two process colors on the logo.

We saved two hours in production time, mostly in makeready, by using the new T-51."
While the new A.B. Dick 9810 and T-51 AE are adding to the firm’s productivity, DeWar is hoping to add customers that he might have had to turn away before.
Richard DeWar, the firm’s president, added second-color capabilities via a Townsend T-51 swing-away second-color head when he found that his customers were demanding more color. The addition of more color capabilities also aided him in gaining more market share.
DeWar’s most recent — and most profitable — equipment investment is the addition of a new Townsend Swing-Away T-51 AE (Anniversary Edition) second-color head to the company’s A.B. Dick 9810 offset press.
Says DeWar, "The T-51 AE is our fourth T-head. After seeing this new model, we knew it could help our business tremendously.

"We are approaching customers that we turned away in the past because of pricing," he explains. "We’re starting to bid on jobs that we couldn’t accept before we acquired the new T-head."
As for the future, DeWar plans to bring a typesetting and prepress department in-house and add direct-to-plate capabilities. As the company grows, he is continuing to seek larger quarters, as well. However, DeWar’s priority will remain to provide his local Janesville customers with the service and quality they have come to expect.
